Sunrise Senior Living License License Reinstated After Failing to Report Abuse by Aids on Dementia Patients

While elder – care home operator Sunrise Senior Living Inc. recently had its license to operate a facility revoked following an alleged incident at the Quadrangle Continuing Care Retirement Community in Haverford, Pennsylvania state officials have decided to reinstate the company provided it complies with new, stricter regulations. The incident, which involved aides assaulting and mocking a half – naked dementia patient, resulted in a full scale investigation of the company’s practices. Violations demonstrating gross incompetence, negligence and misconduct on behalf of sunrise were exposed, along with the fact that a Quadrangle administrator did not report allegations of abuse to the state or county. Three aids were charged with aggravated assault, neglect of a care – dependent person and other crimes. According to a copy of the provisional license, which will remain in effect from May 26 through November 26, sunrise has a month to institute an “independent, qualified oversight organization;” to revamp the hiring process to focus on “experiences, behaviors, knowledge, skills and abilities that are job – related;” to revamp training programs; and to implement performance evaluations.
