Philadelphia Bricklaying Construction Accident Results in Tragic Death

In a recent construction accident in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, a 30 year old bricklayer was electrocuted to death when a bucket he was holding came into contact with a charged power line. The construction site bricklaying team was operating from encompassed scaffolding positioned between power lines, which were covered with a protective plastic insulation. Despite such safeguards, the bucket the victim was raising somehow swung and came into direct contact with a charged power line, electrocuting the man in the process. According to Michael Mayberry, an eyewitness to the event, “the hook from the bucket went into the plastic part of the wires and hit the wires… When he went for the bucket, the current hit him. It let out a buzz sound and he fell and hit his head on the ground.” Several other witnesses had expressed anxiety about the scaffolding’s close proximity to the electrical wires.
